BMH Surgeon to Provide Medical Care Halfway Around the World

BLACKFOOT, Idaho – October 1, 2016 – When Doran Schneider, DO, board-certified general surgeon at Bingham Memorial Hospital (BMH), found out there was an opportunity to join other surgeons from around the country to serve a medical mission to Ghana, Africa, he immediately volunteered his services.

Dr. Schneider will participate in the Medical Missions to Ghana, a non-profit charity organization, for a week—from November 6 until 14, 2016. While there, he and his fellow surgeons will be providing free surgeries and other medical help to the under-served people of Ghana.

“It has been a career long dream to serve a medical mission,” says Dr. Schneider. “I have been blessed with a skill that I can share with others and improve their lives. It’s an honor to do so.” Dr. Schneider will be performing general surgery operations mainly consisting of hernia repair, but, also, possibly lacerations and explorations for abdominal pain.

All of the medial team participating on the medial mission, and who will be performing procedures, understand that the conditions will be less than ideal. “We will be facing challenges with electrical outages, limited materials, and an overabundance of need,” says Dr. Schneider. “But we are all determined to make the best of the situation and help as many people as possible.”

While Dr. Schneider will be paying his own way to Ghana, the organization—Medical Missions to Ghana—is still in need of monetary donations to help pay for airfare for anesthesiologists, nurses, OR techs, and supplies.

Those wishing to contribute can make checks payable to Medical Missions to Ghana and drop them off at one of Dr. Schneider’s offices: 98 Poplar St., Blackfoot and 1151 Hospital Way, Pocatello.

Or, checks can be mailed directly to:
