Physician Bio
Aimee Ying Zhang, MD, is a dedicated physician with a passion for improving the lives of her patients. Dr. Zhang is a fellowship trained bariatric surgeon as well as a board-certified general surgeon. Her fellowship training allows her to specialize in minimally invasive bariatric surgery, anti-reflux surgery, hernia repair, and other general surgeries. She has had extensive exposure to these areas, learning from leaders in the field, and is fully trained and certified in the use of the Da Vinci robotic surgery system.
Her decision to pursue a career in medicine stems from a deep motivation to make a meaningful impact on others. For Dr. Zhang, there is immense fulfillment in helping patients see tangible improvements in their health and overall quality of life, both immediately and over time.
Dr. Zhang is dedicated to patient-centered care and shared decision-making, working closely with patients to develop personalized treatment plans that align with their unique needs and preferences. With meticulous attention to detail and a focus on precise technique, Dr. Zhang ensures that every aspect of care is tailored to achieve the best possible health outcomes.
Dr. Zhang earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 2016, following her undergraduate studies at Duke University, where she graduated Cum Laude with High Distinction in Biology (Cell & Molecular) in 2012.
Her postdoctoral training includes completing her residency in General Surgery at the University of Virginia Health System, where she also served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery through an NIH T32 Training Grant. She has completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Ohio State University. She has authored 20 peer-reviewed scientific papers, presented at national medical meetings, and received several awards from national medical societies for her research. Additionally, she was honored with the Skip Warren award for best chief resident during her residency.
Now practicing in Idaho, Dr. Zhang is excited about the opportunities the state provides for outdoor adventures. An avid nature lover, she looks forward to exploring the natural beauty of the region, usually accompanied by her beloved black Labrador retriever.
