Physician Bio

Dr. Gibson completed his Bachelor of Science degree with University Honors from Brigham Young University. He obtained his medical degree from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed his internal medicine residency at the Hospital of Fairfield Medical Center where he also served as Chief Resident in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Gibson then pursued and completed his post–doctoral fellowship training in Rheumatology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Dr. Gibson is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and serves as a member of the American College of Rheumatology’s Committee on Rheumatologic Care.

He is known for his clinical skills and broad interest in difficult to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Discoid Lupus Erythematosus, gout, psoriasis, and psoriatic arthritis.

Dr. Gibson’s expertise includes clinical trials and investigations with a particular interest in specific autoantibodies as biomarkers in Rheumatoid Arthritis. Dr. Gibson also performs synovial biopsies providing an important clinical and research resource for studying the fundamental mechanisms of autoimmune disease with the goal of heralding precision medicine in rheumatic disease. He works closely with other research collaborators on various projects including: disease progression of axial spondylarthritis, health care disparities in lupus treatment, lupus, lupus nephritis, and hidradenitis suppurativa.
