Physician Bio

Bingham Healthcare is pleased to welcome Todd Blackner, MD as part of the staff at the 1st Choice Urgent Care & Family Medicine clinic in Shelley.

Dr. Blackner has a deep passion for medicine. While in college, his younger sister was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 11 years old. “My experiences throughout this period, with her with the providers, and with the other patients and their families, changed me,” he says. “I developed a deep desire to help those who are suffering.”

For the last five years, Dr. Blackner has served as a general medical officer in the Navy, giving medical care to men and women in uniform, including deployed soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. He spent over a year as a general medical officer on the USS George H. W. Bush, serving over 4,000 active duty sailors.

Dr. Blackner is excited about bringing his medical knowledge to the people of Shelley in a primary care setting. His philosophy of medicine is to listen to his patients and give them the opportunity to say what is wrong with them without having any preconceived notions.

“I feel medicine involves much more than identifying and treating disease,” he says. “I try to treat the patient as a whole – physically, emotionally and spiritually where appropriate. Often a patient needs only for one to listen, to care and to understand.”

Dr. Blackner enjoys spending time with his family and reading, outdoor sports, bodybuilding and focusing on healthy nutrition.
