Congratulations to our First Quarter Servant’s Heart Recipients for 2022

Medical Practitioner

Brian Hansen, DO – Family Medicine Specialist

Nominated by: Alisso Castro Godinez

“It is my pleasure to nominate Dr. Hansen for the quarterly Servant’s Heart award. It has been such an honor to see his growth from his final year of residency, to one of our very own family medicine physicians. He has been such a great addition to the Bingham team. His service with medical students, nursing staff, and patients allow his natural leadership to shine through. He delivers empathetic care to both patients and staff, always lend a listening ear. His desire to assist patients to achieve their healthcare goals and guide them every step of the way is powerful and fulfilling.

“He continues to ambitiously expand his knowledge in the ever changing field of family medicine, ensuring his practice is always up to date. He has a passion for creating a healthier community and does so by spending the needed time with patients to create a safe, nonjudgmental, learning environment. When Dr. Hansen is not in a room with a patient, he is making certain his staff are not in any need of assistance and is always willing to lend a helping hand. He is a highly skilled individual who strives to be a better physician, every day.

“I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award, as he demonstrates quality care and compassion beyond expectations. Thank you for all you do!”

Nursing Team Member

Jessica Reyes, CMA, Back Office Assistant

Nominated by: Krysten Morris

“I want to nominate Jessica Reyes for the Servant’s Heart award. First of all, anyone who knows Jess adores her. She is always willing to help and does so with a positive attitude, patience, and compassion. She juggles multiple providers as the sole nurse for the midwives and stays on top of all tasks she is assigned.

“Recently, I was very impressed with her related to a particular incident. It was a day her provider unexpectedly had to be home sick, which caused an avalanche of rescheduling for that day. Jess heard from the front office that one of her patients who was scheduled with a particular provider was very upset, as she had some sensitive health. Jess first immediately called the patient, who she also had been working with for the past year, because she knew of the patient’s delicate health history first-hand, and she was able to help the patient to feel comfortable coming in to see another provider that Jess was helping out that afternoon. The patient trusted Jess’s opinion and was happy she would see a familiar face when checking in.

“Jess didn’t stop there. She spent the next few hours, checking in with the patient’s provider, and outside providers who specialized in the main concern of the patient’s immediate health concern, Dr. Bergsten, Ob-Gyn, who the patient would be seeing that day, and an out-of-state hospital just in case the patient agreed to inpatient treatment, as no one in our area was qualified to treat the issue in a minor. Jess’s concern, communication skills, and diligence were very apparent to me as a co-worker. Jess was vital in working with all providers and healthcare experts, relaying information, and developing a plan of care/recommendation that everyone agreed was best for the patient.

“When the patient arrived with a parent for her appointment, Jess had an outline of all the options and details, and the rationale of how they had reached it. She stressed to the patient and family the life-threatening situation ever present if the patient did not get specialized in-patient care and, fortunately, the patient and family agreed.

“Knowing the details of the situation, I can easily affirm that Jess was vital in saving this patient’s life and drastically changing the course of her life. She was the only nurse clinic-wide who fully knew the weight of this patient’s situation and was familiar with her health history.  And she did not say ‘Oh she can see her original provider next week, or midwives don’t even treat that issue,’ she instead went above and beyond. I know she would not hesitate to do the same for any patient.”

Support Team Member

Amy Montoya, Social Worker

Nominated by: Jason Jensen

“Amy always takes the time to explain community programs with patients and families, often staying late to make sure things get completed for a patient to return to the community with all the resources both available and needed. Even difficult to deal with families and patients, she still takes the time to make sure things are done completely and all resources needed are explored and put into place.

“She is often asked for by families needing help even after they have been discharged because they know she will take the time to give them answers and guidance to their issue. She knows her community resources very well.

“She often steps up to help other staff make sure things are done for our patients. This happened more frequently during Covid as staff would have to be out. She helped in the dining room, taking patients to appointments, and helping with paperwork needing completed or audited. She even gets involved to help with large activities to make things are memorable for the patients. She can always be relied on to help make sure our patients are cared for. She also listens to staff having problems to remind them of community resources them or their family may be able to use.”

All employees, regardless of where they work in our organization, are caregivers who play an important role in the healing miracles that occur each day. Thank you for all you do in providing compassionate and personalized care to every person you serve.
