Dr. Richardson has been involved from the ground up in forming and developing Bingham’s robotic shoulder replacement program. His commitment to innovation and precision in joint replacement has helped establish Bingham as a leader in advanced orthopedic technology across Idaho.

Recognized for both clinical excellence and patient care, Dr. Richardson was voted Best Doctor, Best Medical Specialist and Best Orthopedic Surgery in the Idaho State Journal Readers’ Choice Awards.

Throughout the past decade, Dr. Richardson has been involved in research projects, publications, and presentations covering a wide range of orthopedic topics, including rotator cuff repair, fractures of the tibia, femur, and fingers, joint dislocations, tendonitis, and resilience through exercise. In 2005, he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

His passion for medicine stems from an appreciation for the complexity of the human body and a desire to work directly with people.

“I always wanted a career where I could interact daily with all types of individuals,” he says. “I enjoy working with my hands and seeing meaningful results. Orthopedics allows you to restore function and help patients get back to what they love.”

As part of Bingham Healthcare’s Orthopedics & Sports Medicine team, Dr. Richardson specializes in shoulder replacement and advanced joint care, now incorporating Mako robotic technology to personalize surgical planning and support precision during procedures.

A native of the Mountain West, Dr. Richardson grew up in Kaysville, Utah and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah. His approach to medicine is centered on connection and communication.

“I take the time to help patients understand what they’re dealing with and how we’re going to treat it,” he says. “When patients feel informed and comfortable, outcomes are better.”

Dr. Richardson’s clinical perspective is strengthened by his early experience working as a CNA during college and assisting with geriatric care coordination during residency, particularly in improving treatment pathways for fragility fractures. These experiences allow him to view patient care from multiple angles — surgical, rehabilitative, and long-term recovery.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Richardson enjoys staying active with his wife and four daughters. He spends his free time skiing, playing golf and soccer, and pursuing photography.
