2023 Annual Servant’s Heart Award

A servant’s heart is a profound wellspring of compassion for others, and in our line of work, it is an essential quality. We care for individuals during their most vulnerable moments—times of pain and distress. Approaching our responsibilities with a servant’s heart enriches the patient experience during their time under our care.

Yet, a servant’s heart transcends the care setting or any singular moment. It extends into every interaction we have, whether that is with patients, family, friends, or colleagues, radiating qualities of compassion and care in all relationships. This year’s award recipient has consistently exemplified a servant’s heart in their interactions with colleagues.

For 2023, it is abundantly clear that Jennifer Ellefson, a registered nurse at Bingham, embodies the true essence of a servant’s heart, not only in the care she provides to patients but also in the unwavering support she offers her colleagues. Her dedication, selflessness, and commitment to the well-being of others make her the truly deserving recipient of the 2023 Annual Servant’s Heart Award.

Here are some of the statements from those who nominated her:

“She is an extraordinary charge nurse, circulator, and confidant. Her calm demeanor in stressful situations, her impartial listening, and her prompt issue resolution showcase her innate sense of what is right and just. She upholds the highest standards, treating everyone fairly. Gossip never taints her conversations, and she is the approachable charge nurse for all. She is the backbone of our department.”

“Her constant presence ensures the OR runs smoothly, and her infectious happiness and boundless energy uplift us all. She perpetually seeks ways to assist everyone.”

“She consistently goes above and beyond, showcasing unwavering reliability, empathy, intelligence, and kindness.”

“She is an exceptional individual, always ready to assist a coworker, and displays profound compassion and care for our patients. Her personal touch is deeply cherished by all.”

“Direct and kind, she places patient care at the forefront while assisting colleagues in delivering the best care possible.”

“She is the calming presence who adeptly handles crises in the surgical theater. She is the one we all turn to when difficulties arise. Her poise, composure, and care are not only a comfort to her patients but also to every member of our staff.”
