Relay for Life 2015
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life works to decrease cancer and ultimately eliminate it. As the world’s largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer, Relay for Life unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to find a cure once and for all.
We at Bingham Memorial Hospital are honored to be a part of Relay for Life. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 30th at Blackfoot High School from noon until 10 p.m. To raise money, our team—Laurie’s Minons—will be walking laps in honor of those who have lost their life to cancer and those who bravely continue on with the fight.
All fundraising dollars will go to the American Cancer Society, which supports cancer research, helps support positive legislation aimed at furthering cancer research, and supports cancer sufferers, cancer survivors and their families.
Relay for Life consists of a number of special activities all day. A Survivors Ceremony at 6 p.m. celebrates cancer survivors, and a beautiful Luminaria Ceremony at 9 p.m. honors those affected by cancer. Luminaria are paper bags containing votive candles that will be lit after dark and can be personalized in memory or in honor of a loved one affected by cancer and/or their caregiver.
You can also help in the fight to end cancer by being proactive about your own health. Treatment generally works best when cancer is found early. It’s important to know the common symptoms of cancer, like unexplained weight loss, fever, fatigue, pain and changes of the skin. These symptoms do not necessarily indicate cancer though. As always, you should consult with a doctor.

We hope you’ll take some time to come support the many employees and volunteers who will be dedicating their time to raising awareness and money at Blackfoot High School this Saturday. Because of events like Relay for Life, there will always be hope in the fight against cancer.
