“Every step at a Relay for Life event around the World is one step closer to a cure.” 

At Bingham Memorial Hospital (BMH), we are honored to be a part of Relay for Life. Please join us at this year’s event, which will take place on Sat., May 21^st at Blackfoot High School from noon until 10 p.m.

Our team—The Bingham Crusaders—will be walking laps to represent that cancer never sleeps and to honor those who have lost their life to cancer and those who bravely continue on with the fight. This special community event generates awareness about cancer and raises funds for research and for patients who may need assistance during treatments, helping to offset the costs associated with treatments, makeovers, transportation, and lodging.

Relay for Life consists of a number of special activities all day. At 6 p.m., a Survivor/Caregiver Walk will celebrate cancer survivors and the lifers—those with a metastatic disease who continue to fight bravely. A beautiful Luminaria Ceremony at 9:30 p.m. will honor those affected by cancer. Luminaria are paper bags containing votive candles that will be lit after dark and can be personalized in memory or in honor of a loved one affected by cancer and/or their caregiver.

Overall, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life works to decrease cancer and ultimately eliminate it. As the world’s largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer, Relay for Life unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to find a cure once and for all.

You can also help in the fight to end cancer by being proactive about your own health. Treatment generally works best when cancer is found early. It’s important to know the common symptoms of cancer, like unexplained weight loss, fever, fatigue, pain and changes of the skin. These symptoms do not necessarily indicate cancer though. As always, you should consult with a doctor.
